LOVEFiLM

Today sees the launch of the LOVEFiLM Instant Watchlist on the LOVEFiLM website.

You can now add any LOVEFiLM Instant title to a list, ready to play later. The Watchlist also makes it easy to store and keep track of all the movies & TV shows you’re currently watching.

It’s very simple: as you’re browsing the LOVEFiLM website, you’ll see a new yellow “Add to Watchlist” button next to all LOVEFiLM Instant titles. Click the button and that film or TV show will be added to your Watchlist.

Go to the Watchlist page (you’ll find this link at the top right of any page), and you’ll see all of your additions listed (if they’re still available to stream). Your most recent Watchlist additions will be listed first. You can also filter your Watchlist to show just Films, just TV shows, or All titles.

Removing titles from your Watchlist is easy too…

  • On the Watchlist page, click the “Remove” link beneath any titles to get rid of it (a handy “Undo” link appears afterwards, just in case you hit “Remove” by accident).
  • On the website in general, just click the “Remove from Watchlist” yellow button – these will be next to any film or TV show on your Watchlist.

The Watchlist has been the most frequently request from LOVEFiLM Instant members, so we’re delighted to launch it and really hope it improves your LOVEFiLM Instant experience.

And if you have any feedback, such as new features you’d like to see added to the Watchlist, please let us know via the comments below…

  1. Its a great start for sure, i would like to see the ability to prioritise my own watchlist similar to rentals maybe. Also it would be useful to know how long the film/series will be available on the watchlist. Also an adult and chidren section seperate with parental protection on the adult content would be a nice touch. Finally the ability to use the watchlist on all formats would br great.

    By this friday, Cheers ;D

  2. The watchlist is great but it needs to be available on the iPad app too.

    Catherine on Wednesday 19, 2012
  3. Great idea, and much needed. Only thing is I watched something on it, I expected it to be removed automatically. Would prefer an option to both keep already watched content or remove it after its been watched.

  4. Very Good idea. Will it be availble on the TV application as well?

    • Cannot agree more about the loss of recently viwed facility. May it please be brought back?

      Stiou on Friday 21, 2012
  5. This is a good idea, but where has the recently viewed list gone? When i watched a series before, i could see which episode id watched last but now i have to go through the description of it to remember which one i saw last!

  6. Really useful addition, saves me having to keep a list of the films I wanted to watch later!
List need to be longer as i can only see about 7 films in my watch list at any one time!
    Many thanks

  7. First off I’d like to congratulate you guys on the continuous improvement, it really shows that lovefilm care about providing a good quality service.

I like the better support for instant streaming, vis a vis the watch list and combining episodes into series, this stuff all counts towards me keeping my subscription as my internet connection becomes more stable / higher speed.

One thing I would bring up however, is the seeming lack of subtitle support on the streamed films, I had a netflix subscription a while back and many of their films do have this support. My girlfriend is hearing impaired and she definitely enjoys this functionality!

The suggestions for films I might like (similar / popular recomendations) are very important as they let me traverse your full catalogue, however they could be a little bit more tailored. For instance if I’ve already rated / watched a film I don’t need to be suggested it again for a while, there are also films that I’m just not interested in and so suggesting them is a waste of time.

Keep up the good work expanding the catalogue and making it as easy as possible for people to watch what they want.

    Good luck, and keep iterating!

  8. Brilliant way to have a list of favourite films to watch! :)

  9. The new watchlist is a fantastic feature! No longer will I lose track of the many titles I want to see. Nicely designed too; clean but also eye catching.

  10. Very good idea to have a watch list. I’ve only just started using it, but a few things I hope it would include are: email reminders, say once a month to reminder people of films they have yet watched from their list. Also as another person mentioned, if a title has to be removed from the online service, an email let people know they have to watch it soon.

Another thing I’d like it to include is for TV shows, and sequels to films, if for example I watch a TV show, then later you add the next series, I’d like an email to let me know it is available, same with sequels/prequels to films I’ve watched.

  11. Looks like a good idea. My development priorities would be –
    - Direct access of Watchlist from iPad app – it’s crazy that the app flags things which are in my rental list but won’t let me see the list (now the watchlist) directly.
    - Ability to easily add items from my rental list to the Watchlist (preferably in bulk, but even a one-click option on each line in the rental list to move it over would be an improvement).

    Thanks, and Happy Christmas!

  12. Nice idea and I will be using it. My two suggestions are:

    1. An advance warning email to let you know if a movie from your Watchlist is going to be removed from LoveFilm Instant in the next couple of weeks.
    2. The ability to see the Watchlist on all devices that you use to see movies. (Computer, Xbox, TV, etc etc)

Other than that it’s just what I want.

  13. i like it, but love film crashed half way through an episode and when i got back onto the site, it started me from about 6 episodes back and wouldnt let me go to the episode i was at. only allowing me to watch the next episode in sequence, when i tried to fast forward through the episodes to get to the one i wanted, it refused to do this saying i had streamed too much???

  14. It would be good if you could easily view the list of films that you have already watched online.

  15. Good idea would me nice to have sub menu to put different films and tv programs in to, and sinc with xbox

    Peter on Thursday 20, 2012
  16. Smart TV issues!
The Watchlist seems a great idea, but what’s the point if you can’t access it from my smart tv? Surely that’s the place where it would be most useful!
Also I can add movies to my ‘Post out’ list, but I can’t see what’s actually on the list – sure you should be able to view your list?
Also why don’t movies i’ve already watched and rated, have the stars in red, like the PC online version?

    BarryC on Thursday 20, 2012
  17. It would be great if you could make this list a selection for your Sony Blu-Ray, PS3, etc apps. I prefer watching from there, and if I could load up a list of titles from my pc through your website, this would really work well together.

    Brian on Thursday 20, 2012
  18. I love the new watchlist. It makes it easier to find things you might see when searching that you like the look of. I do however miss the recently viewed feature. I quite often fall asleep watching things and they play through till the end. If them playing until the end removes them from the watch list it makes it inconvenient for me to find them again.

Kerry Rowberry on Thursday 20, 2012
  19. If the watchlist was visible on the Sony TV love film it would be great…

    Andy on Thursday 20, 2012
  20. I like this. It would be useful if I could sort the list into priorities so that I can get to my favorites quicker.

    Gareth on Thursday 20, 2012
  21. Generally I prefer the new watchlist it’s really useful… however, on the old list you could see what you have already watched so if you were watching a series you could easily work out which episode was next. How can I do that now?

    Lia on Thursday 20, 2012
  22. Watch List:
Good idea, just a couple remarks:
1.No pop-up info on ‘mouse-over’ . To get that, need to click on the link, which will Load a new page, with the program already starting to play (only wanted to read the info?…..). That’s how Now TV does it.
    YOU DON’T WANT THAT !!!
    2. No indication to programs which Have Already Been played.
    3. No means to remove a program (‘Remove’ link doesn’t seem to work)

    History List:
Sadly have been removed. Used to be a good point of reference to already watched programs.
Now, I need to make a special note elsewhere – to return to unfinished program, or to recommend it to someone else

    LM on Thursday 20, 2012
  23. The possibility to move items between the watchlist and the rental list is missing. If an item on my rental list become available online, I can’t move it, I have to find it again to add it on my watchlist? Also if it is not available anymore online and I would like to put it back to my rental list, there needs to be this option available.

    Sandrine on Thursday 20, 2012
  24. Great start but I now need to see my watchlist on my Sony TV. Would like to be able to add films to my watchlist on my PC, phone, etc and then watch them direct on my TV rather than having to search through all the different categories.

    richard on Thursday 20, 2012
  25. I was going to make the watch list a suggestion to you – but you beat me to it. I often have pockets of short time to browse the available videos on the watch now package without having time to watch them, but would love to compile a watchlist – now you’ve provided it.

    Ian on Thursday 20, 2012
  26. Nice idea, but essentially pointless until it’s accessible from the LoveFilm Player app (in my case, on iPad).

    David on Thursday 20, 2012
  27. Why does it say its the beta version of the watchlist.
    More sloppiness?

Julian Stumm on Thursday 20, 2012
  28. watch list good but where is my last watched program? have to load episode 1 first every time…not good

    Lloyd on Thursday 20, 2012
  29. Very good easier to log on and watch my films tv series can we have a favourites perhaps?

    sam on Thursday 20, 2012
  30. Great idea, but (as others have said) it really needs to be added to device apps to be of much use. We use a blu-ray player for instant watching and it’s harder on there to find things we want to watch, so it would be great to be able to make a watchlist on our pc and then refer to it on the blu-ray player when we want to see something.

    Hayley on Friday 21, 2012
  31. long overdue – great feature – like everyone else have been using a separate rental list to manage my watchlist

    roger on Friday 21, 2012
  32. Hi – can you make this link to the apps on smart TV’s etc. It would be good to have watchlist available on the actual medium used to watch the films.

Chris Mumby on Friday 21, 2012
  33. Love the Watchlist1

I too have set up another rental list to manage these in the past.

    I would sugest 2 things
    1. ability to order like normal lists
    2. and more important the ability to view this list on my PS3 when i login to the love film app! making it much easyer to get to what i want instead of using the remote to search for it every time.

    thanks

    jon

  34. This is a fantastic idea. As others have mentioned, it should also appear on the app. What would be really amazing is if it also appeared on the TV app (or whatever device people are using to watch the films other than a computer). That would make life so much easier. Keep up the good work guys!

  35. A very good idea! I love the way Lovefilm gets better.

    Olga on Friday 21, 2012
  36. I love the watchlist i can go staight to it,
But i wish we could have it in Alabert order or arrange it in an order that the same actors are in. That way i can watch all James Dean, Marylin Monroe, Audrey Heatburn, and many more, if you do that i think we can use it better, also can you have a list of what films you are getting on instant so we know as i can wait and place in watchlist.
Cant wait for more to come on.

    Laura on Friday 21, 2012
  37. This is a great idea and makes it so much easier to view the shows and films I want to see that are available for streaming. However, it would be great to be able to view the watchlist on my smart tv and PS3….

    Claire on Friday 21, 2012
  38. The Watchlist is a great new feature that I welcome to the service. However, recently viewed online list needs to come back. It is long to go through ‘My Account’ to see what content I viewed last.

  39. I don’t have to use the Safari Reading List to store LoveFilm searches on my iMac anymore…Watchlist…iLOVEIT!

  40. Definately a step in the right direction, but I agree wholeheartedly with many others regarding:-

    1) It needs adding to the device apps.
    2) A “watchlist” link from pc to device.
    3) A link between “watchlist and “rental”
    4) Bring back the “history” list and pop up film information.

Would also be grateful for any information on future plans to add watchlist to apps, (soon please).

Colin Manktelow (Col) on Friday 21, 2012
  41. Very nice – but since the website uses silverlight, I can’t stream it on here, and the watchlist feature doesn’t show up on the xbox where I can, it’s not as useful as it could be.

Rikard Anglerud on Friday 21, 2012
  42. Just discovered watchlist today. Made a list on the computer – a little disappointed that the list was unavailable on the Wii App and it was back to ploughing through the movie list to find the one I wanted.

Good start, but take this repeated suggestion into account please.

    Lee on Friday 21, 2012
  43. Very nice addition to the new upgrades. It was frustrating having to try and remember the films to watch as I scrolled through the listings. Now’t to do with this upgrade BUT when I click on a film to see the reviews the film now starts automatically. Some films I like the look of from the captive description and want to see the public reviews which have never let me down but the film starts before I can decide if I want it registerd on my rental/package list. Why has this happened it is of no benefit to me and I find it really irritating.

    Gary on Friday 21, 2012
  44. Great and long awaited! Agree with most comments, including ability to select “Watched” to remove from Watchlist. Also ability to Rate from within Watchlist before being removed.

  45. Still waiting for a RUKU version so I can take advantage of Instant without tying up a computer. Support for Chromebook would also be good.

Julian Edwards on Saturday 22, 2012
  46. At last!! I can watch Lovefilm on the Wii and there’s no longer a need for Netflix to give me live streaming access.

Would be good if the watchlist I set up on my PC was available on the Wii too though – with so many films to choose from it takes a while to search and make selections using the Wii interface. Would be much better/easier if I could set up my watchlist on the PC then access it from the Wii.

    Bryan on Saturday 22, 2012
  47. my wishlist would include items not yet available in instant, but are out now on dvd, this would be a great time saver.
I would add, i find when looking through the icons in instant i come across loads and loads of icons that need to be skipped over as they all belong to tv long running shows,ie LOST S1 EP5, Lost S2 EP3 ect, before getting to the individual film choses again. THIS IS QUITE A CHORE. Surely 1 icon per series, under TV shows icon would be a better index for all. gripe over

  50. Great! Finally! Been waiting for there to be a watchlist for a while. Definately handy but I agree with an above poster, could do with it automatically removing things once watched save manually doing it.
