Hey Everyone – in my last post, I was responding to loads of contact about the song in our TV ad. Well, new ad; new song; loads more contact…
Somebody once told me that, in life, “the right thing to do, is always the right thing to do”.
That’s why we chose the current music track for our November and December TV adverts. It’s a cover of a Steve Winwood track called Higher Love. And this unique, haunting and emotional version is sung by a fella called James Vincent McMorrow.
I stumbled across it after I saw him on Later with Jools Holland. Straight away I knew this was the right track for us, so I started digging. As it turns out, James and his record company are great people as well as great musicians. Because the best thing about all this is that proceeds from the use and sale of this track are going to a charity in Ireland called Headstrong.
I am very proud of that fact, and that we can support it by using the song. And we’re delighted to have got involved with something that is (to my earlier point) the right thing to do.
Everybody wins here, basically, so if you want to find out more about the Headstrong charity, click here.
And if you want to hear James’ Higher Love, here it is…

Thanks! I wish more companies posted the music they used in ads. I’ve been searching for song this all day.
Really nice cover on the original. Love it.
Props on the song choice, this one is beautiful!
thanks! and i love the song choice, when i start to watch lovefilm adverts on my xbox, i always sings along. GREAT SONG!
James Vincent McMorrow is simply wonderful. I hope this will bring him to the attention of more people.
Beautiful song choice, thought I’d have to search the ends of the earth for the artist so wise move posting this blog.
It was a novelty the first time, but almost 3 months of having to hear this is like torture every ad break. Sorry but it’s just whiny, depressing and ultimately annoying to me, but the original upbeat version is 10 times better. Doesn’t inspire me to want to subscribe to Lovefilm again.
I just google “whats the song on the latest lovefilm advert” and got your post for ‘Plain White T’s’ as the first result. It was in fact this song that I was looking for – its beautiful (and even more so knowing the backstory) – but your older post says you were outvoted on the song choice for current advert and, which is not what it says here???
Great song!!! just downloaded it, it seriously needed to be added to my music collection! x
Thankyou this song is amazing say i love it everytime i see you advert!

I have to say that I absolutely hate this song! Everytime I stream something from Lovefilm on my XBOX, it comes up and I have to mute my TV for the duration of the ad.
I want to punch the guy singing it in the face. Repeatedly.
p.s. the cheesy 80’s original was far better.
Whinny….. having a laugh pure Passion music and films walk hand in hand
