Today sees the arrival of the new Kindle Fire HD in the UK. We’re excited because the LOVEFiLM Instant application is fully integrated – no downloading required, just turn on your Kindle Fire, tap the “Videos” button and you’re away.
It’s got some fantastic new features…
Watch out for the new Watchlist! As you’re browsing thousands of movies & TV episodes, you can create a list of titles to watch later. All at the tap of a button. The Watchlist feature is currently only available on the Kindle Fire, but we’ll be adding it to the LOVEFiLM website soon.
TV lovers will like our Next Up feature, which shows a list of the TV shows you’ve recently watched. If you’re part way through an episode, you can resume watching it. If you’ve got to the end of an episode, Next Up will offer you the next one.
X-Ray for Movies is especially cool. Tap the screen while a film is playing and X-Ray for Movies will show you who’s in the current scene. Tap on their name and you’ll see their biography and previous films. Perfect for when you can’t quite put a name to the face.
IMDb – the Internet Movie Database – provides the key details, as well as trivia, goofs and quotes too. While this feature will only be available on certain films to begin with, we’ll be adding more every week. The “Includes X-Ray” icon will tell you if it’s available for a particular film.
If your broadband connection is fast enough, the Kindle Fire HD lets you watch selected titles in glorious high definition. An HD icon flags which titles are in HD, but whatever your broadband connection speed, the Kindle Fire automatically selects the best picture quality.
Amazon’s famous personalised recommendations – including the ‘people who watched this also watched’ feature – are also on offer. The more you watch on LOVEFiLM Instant (on any LOVEFiLM app, not just the Kindle Fire), the better your recommendations become and they’ll always offer something new.
It’s a quick and simple process to link your Amazon and LOVEFiLM accounts, which means you’ll only need one account to access both services. If you don’t yet have a LOVEFiLM subscription, you can use the Kindle Fire to sign up to our streaming only package and be watching in minutes.
All these features and thousands of brilliant movies & TV shows are waiting for you on the Kindle Fire and Kindle Fire HD. Enjoy!

Why can’t you make this APK available for other devices?
Will the LOVEFiLM Instant application support output to TV? I hope not, as I’ve never been able to do this with my iPad. It’s still not clear if this iPad restriction is due to the Film Industry, Apple or LoveFilm. As NetFlix can output to TV on an iPad, I expect the restriction is due to LoveFilm.
Seems like the only solution is to take my custom to NetFlix.
The X-Ray feature sounds pretty cool.
Now that the Fire is launched, is there any news on when this will be rolled out to other Android devices?
Is there STILL no news on streaming to Android devices? This is taking a very long time and is getting increasingly annoying. Considering there are more Android devices than iOS devices it would make sense to concentrate on getting the Android app up to a similar level of functionality.
Will we get free Lovefilm if we subscribe to Amazon Prime (same as the US)?
Any plans for Lovefilm Instant to become available for other Android devices?
I understand, from a question i put to your customer services, that Lovefilm Instant is not going to be made available to customers who use Android tablets. Since this would clearly not present a technical problem I guess that the reason is that you want to push customers into buying an Amazon Kindle because Lovefilm is owned by Amazon.
I’m a customer of yours and I really resent being manipulated in this way. Perhaps I might feel more disposed to buying a Kindle if I thought that Amazon might get around to paying some tax in the UK at some point but until they do I’ll not buy from them and I’ll cancel Lovefilm too.
Good luck with the clever strategy guys.
So are we to assume now that there is an integrated app on the Kindle Fire that an app for other Android devices is to follow? And how long will it be for this?
Who cares, when is the app coming to android!!
I’ve just got my kindle fire and find it disappointing that there are limited films to watch and not the full lovefilm library. Nearly every film I have on my lovefilm account list isn’t available on the kindle fire. This was the main reason I bought the kindle fire.
LoveFilm sounds great…. why can’t i access love movies instant in Ireland?
As an android tablet user i feel very let down by the lack of streaming to other android devices. When will an android app be available ?
These are the features I had expected would have been available on Lovefilm from the beginning. I didn’t bother continuing after the free trial because finding anything was such a faff and there was no way of setting up a list for streaming, only for disks.
I’ve just been trying to find out what’s new to watch, but the search facility still suffers from listing all the TV episodes in no particular order. Put in a top level search that shows titles, with a drill down to episodes, so it makes finding films easier. And only show a title once with a quick view/colour coded key to the formats. Searching for Instant should only bring up streaming, not stuff only available on DVD.
I’ll check back in a few months to see whether it’s improved at all.
When are you going to stop being anti-competitive and release streaming on-demand for other android devices?
Looks good but when will be able to stream Lovefilm via other Android based tablets? The current app needs to be optimised for tablets.
Thanks, all, for your comments – we hear you.
Our long term goal is to have LOVEFiLM on the widest range of devices possible, because that makes sense for everyone.
The wide variety of Android devices do not all work the same way, particularly when it comes to video playback. We’re addressing these differences to ensure we deliver a consistent movie and TV viewing experience.
Good news is that, while developing the Kindle Fire app, we’ve made significant progress towards a playback solution that will be compatible across the broad Android ecosystem.
We’re working hard to have this solution ready as soon as possible in 2013.
