Update 28/02/13: New rental list is now live.
Last year we let some of you try-out a new Rental List design. Following your feedback (thanks everyone!), we’ve added the most requested features and made some final design tweaks.
The new Rental List is now available to customers, and includes:
Cleaner, Clearer, Clutter-free Layout
We’ve updated the page layout, contrast and colour-coding to make it easier to identify different areas of the list and distinguish between the titles you’ve added to it.
High, Normal & Low Priority
We tested a two-tiered priority system, but this proved to be unpopular. So the new Rental List features the three-tiered High, Normal, and Low priority system that you’ll be familiar with.
Changing Disc Format
You can change disc format (from DVD to Blu-ray, for example) without leaving the list. Click the drop down arrow next to the format you’d like to change. If the drop down arrow is not visible, it means that other formats are not available at that time.
Moving Titles between Multiple Lists
If you have multiple lists set up, you can move titles between lists with just one click. To move a title to a different list, use the arrow to the right of the title’s priority setting. You can learn more about the benefits of using multiple lists here.
Viewing 200 Titles per Page
You can now view up to 200 titles per page on the new Rental List. Which is great for those of you with long lists.
We hope you enjoy all the features and improvements that the new Rental List offers – as ever, please do feedback…
Please at least leave the option to revert back to the previous rental list format, as that struck me as much more user friendly, as a few other users have mentioned!
Also, having a ’show all’ option works better than merely being able to see 200 films per page – much easier to change priorities over a large amount of films if you have an extensive list queued up!
how do i see items on my list above 200?
how do i see whats about to be released?
how can people make such an arse of website design in this day and age?
The new website design is nice, but when are you going to make improvements to the iPad app please? It desperately needs work:
Last watched film;
Links from one episode of a series to another;
Reworking search to actually work (try finding a specific episode of 24 for example)
Sorting of search results
Etc
Please could you spend some time looking at your other app clients rather than just the web one.
Thanks
Gee, I’d really like to know how long I have to wait for a DVD. Like so many others have said, I’d really like to have the wait time column back. It’s frustrating not knowing if the people who select my titles just hate certain ones (I waited nearly a year to get one high priority title–with nothing else as a high priority–that wasn’t marked as having a short/long wait), or if there’s only one copy.
This list looks a bit cleaner, but it really isn’t an improvement since it lacks the wait time, nor is it any faster to load, as the LoveFilm site is always ridiculously slow to load.
The whole layout and design is very poor and not user friendly. It looks like something from the 70/80’s. Very poor as some of the functions I liked and am used to now appear to be gone. Think you’ve just wasted a lot of money on a redsign that is frustrating and upsetting a lot of customers!
Bad show!
I would like to order more return envclopes but i cannot find this feature.
Comments, for what they’re worth (it seems to me that there isn’t much response to these comments posts):
1) I often hear people responsible for redesigns saying “people don’t like change so we expect hostility”. That’s true but it is also irritating as a) it has to be change for the better and b) it has to work. The rental list page is excruciatingly slow to load even in the context of Lovefilm’s overall site which is notoriously slow anyway. At the moment, this is rendering the site almost unusable – could someone confirm that this is a temporary issue.
2) As others have mentioned, I don’t really see the point of 200 items per page vs “show all”, though I might be missing something here so will happily stand corrected. I am there or thereabouts on my list and don’t really want to have to click through to a remaining 10 or 20 films once I pass 200.
3) The old list was absolutely fine although, ironically, not as good as the one before it! Could someone perhaps explain why a revamp was needed and what purpose it serves? Were people complaining about the functionality?
Does the new rental list still show which films are available on ‘Instant’?
Thought some of the films on my list showed ‘watch now’ but don’t anymore??
Thanks.
Andrew,
Are there any plans to fix the issue with different priority for different seasons of the same TV show? For example, I have “The Wire – Season 2″ and “The Wire – Season 3″ in my list. I want to set High priority for former and Normal for latter. But, when I change priority for one season it’s changed for another as well.

Mainly echoing what others have said, but it’s important that the scale of the response is known. The new layout looks pretty, but it isn’t as good as the old one.
1) Short/Long Wait information: This was a very useful feature. Removing it means that the new list is a downgrade, not an improvement.
2) Priority: Thanks for listening about the three levels, but this is not an
improvement over what we had originally. Before, I had to click once on
each item then once on the Save button after all changes had been made. Now I have to click twice on each item and wait for the page to update after each one. If I change my mind (or make a mistake) I then have to hunt through the list to find the item that just moved.
3) Expand/Collapse details: This is worse than before. The contrast makes it hard to read. The little cross is hard to click. It was much easier to see the details of all multiple disk sets before.
4) Look: While cleaner, it is harder to read. The contrast of the pale thin text on the grey background is poor. I may be wrong, but it feels as though the list is narrower now, overwhelmed by the help and new release clutter on the right hand sidebar.
5) Series order: If we can no longer rely on seasons in the same list being sent in order (as well as episodes) but instead have to manage this ourselves with additional lists or deleting later seasons, then this is a backwards rather than a forwards step.
6) Deleting items: This is tricky, as you have to approach the cross from the right, otherwise the list option box pops up over the top of it.
I dont like this new format. Can we go back to the old format if we want?
Not keen on the new rental list layout. The previous version was easier to scan, this version seems a bit fussy and cluttered.
I really like the new list, good job. Glad to see you used colours to represent the different priorities after all, easier to see at a glance
I’m saying it again – please please bring back the long wait/short wait information. This was by far the most useful piece of information on the rental list – I don’t mind where this info is put – even if you had to click on the title to see it. Just please bring it back!
I am having some trouble with my list. It is not letting me remove any titles from it. Every time I click remove the title disappears but when I return the title is back up there. Am I doing something wrong?
I unable to remove watch now titles from my rental list. I get rid of them and they just pop straight back up. Very annoying
how about some replies mr. bowden????????????????
I can no longer manage my rental list on my android tablet, could we have the option to revert to the old list, which actually worked?
I would really like to see a visual of each dvd on one side of my rental list. It would definately help to quickly identify what I looking for as I find it quite difficult to remember what the film titles are about after a few weeks or months of choosing them. I, as I believed do a lot of people, find visuals much easier to remember than titles. To be super helpful it would also be so much better if you could include a column listing the leading actor/actress for each listed dvd. If these two suggestions were included in your next rental list design revamp it would certainly help me not to have to go down most of the list and research most of the titles again when I want to select and reprioritise. I also agree with the comment posted about showing which titles are available on “watch now” option. This indeed should be shown on the layout. Just a thought – it is difficult trying to wade through all the titles without some sort of help and I am sorry but I for one think this “clutter free” approach has in actual fact made everything far more difficult in the long run, but thanks for trying and asking for our comments or suggestions anyway.
I can’t delete any titles off my rental list!
I can no longer rate the films I have seen – the stars have disappeared
Please reinstitute the short/long wait information. By not allowing us to see it we’re not only hampered in how we order our list, but also feel like we’re being duped in terms of if/when a title will arrive. Is there a particular reason you don’t want us to see this information?
