inside LOVEFiLM

It’s a great time to catch up on some movies and games – here are some of the top titles you can add to your rental list right now…

DVD

  1. Meet the Parents – Little Fockers – Ten years on, Greg and Pam are married with two children. But Greg still has to struggle to be in the “circle of trust”…
  2. Rubber – Bizarre comedy horror is the order of the day in this tale of Robert, a killer with psychic powers. He also happens to be a rubber tyre.
  3. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest – In the final chapter of the Millennium trilogy, Lisbeth is faced with a murder charge and only her old friend Mikael Blomkvist can help her.
  4. Tron – Legacy – Sam Flynn is the son of Kevin Flynn, the man who built the Grid. Thrown into the same dangerous world as his father before him, Sam must survive the gladiatorial games. And perhaps find Kevin in the process.
  5. Monsters – Small budget but no small impact from this sci-fi drama, where two people must cross a no-man’s land in Central America, declared such after a NASA probe crashed back to Earth, and brought something with it.
  6. Of Gods and Men – Faith and trust are put to the test when eight French monks decide to stay in the face of major political and religious instability in North Africa.
  7. Loose Cannons – Inspiring, satirical comedy about two gay brothers, both trying to come out at the same time to their rather conservative family.
  8. Fred The Movie – True love never did run smooth, and this is especially the case for Fred, who is in love with the girl next door, but never gets a chance to see her.
  9. Freight – Local ‘businessman’ Gabe Taylor crosses paths with a Russian gang and, when his daughter is taken to be sold into the sex trade, takes matters into his own hands.
  10. Chatroom – Aaron Johnson stars in a thriller where four strangers meet William online in a new chat room, little realising what their new friend is capable of.

Blu-ray

  1. Tron – Legacy – Blu-ray – The cyber universe is brought richly to life in this high-definition version, where Sam Flynn must try to survive in a world that has some new rules since his father’s visit twenty years before.
  2. Monsters – Blu-ray – The terrors of a quarantined area in Mexico in vivid sound and vision, as two people try to escape with their lives.
  3. Meet the Parents – Little Fockers – Blu-ray – Comedy capers in the third film in the series with Robert De Niro still looking down on son-in-law Ben Stiller.
  4. The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest – Blu-ray – Noomi Rapace takes the role of Lisbeth for the third time, as the conspiracy that has dictated her life begins, at last, to unravel.
  5. Of Gods and Men – Blu-ray – Perched in the mountains of North Africa, eight monks decide to stay in their monastery after foreign workers are killed in the area.

Games

  1. Mortal Kombat (PS3, XB360) – The classic beat ‘em up returns, with all the blood, gore, and fatalities any Mortal Kombat fan could hope for.
  2. SOCOM: Special Forces (PS3) – Step into the boots of a NATO Operations Commander and lead an elite, five-man squad through inhospitable jungles, city streets, and crumbling urban ruins, there to engage an army of rebel fighters and discover their plans.
  3. Michael Jackson: The Experience (DS, PS3, PSP, Wii, XB360) – Sing and dance along with the King of Pop.
  4. Kinect: Fantastic Pets (XB360) – Forget puppies and kittens, in Fantastic Pets you can evolve your animal into a number of magical creatures, including unicorns and dragons.
  5. Zumba Fitness (PS3, Wii, XB360) – Get fit while you dance to hot, Latin tunes.

You can now stream The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe and The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on the LOVEFiLM Player, as part of a normal subscription package – ie at no extra cost – and, from May 1, Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (that’s the first one) as well.

We’ve struck a deal with Disney to make some of their live-action films available to watch instantly on the PC, via internet-connected TVs, and on the PlayStation®3.

So, just in time for the Easter holidays, you can watch Narnia, Hitchhiker’s, and some perfect bank holiday, kick-back-and-enjoy fare like Con Air, The Rock, Face/Off, The Sixth Sense, Coyote Ugly and Deja Vu. And if you’re on a subscription of £5.99 a month or more, you’ll be watching at no extra cost.

More recently released Disney titles, like TRON: Legacy, Tangled and I Am Number Four, will also be streamable as part of our premium pay-per-view service.

And, of course, you can get all of Disney’s currently available DVD and Blu-ray titles – including their classic animation – via our rental-by-post service.

Simon Calver, our big boss, said: “We’re excited to have even more great films alongside our existing physical and digital titles. This is a great endorsement of the popularity of LOVEFiLM, as Disney is one of the world’s leading studios.”

And Catherine Powell from Disney added: “We’re working with innovative partners such as LOVEFiLM to offer our programming to viewers in evermore flexible, easy to access ways, and this agreement builds on our existing DVD rental partnership to further extend the availability of our films amongst UK audiences.”

You can read more about this deal in articles in The Mirror, The Guardian, and TechCrunch.

What’s more, once installed, you’ll also have the chance to make some money from it. Become a member of our Affiliate Programme operated by Affiliate Window and, for every new customer you send us, we’ll give you a sizable bounty. So everyone’s a winner.

And although we’ve only just launched it, we’re beavering away behind the scenes to add new features to this widget, including the ability to display titles that you’ve previously rented, rated and reviewed.

You can see it in action over on HeyuGuys.co.uk; a rather fine movie blog, where you’ll find the LOVEFiLM widget gracing the right hand side of each page.

As ever, ideas for new features and feedback are always welcome – feel free to send them to: widgets@lovefilm.com
